About The Company:

The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) Early Warning Team (EWT) seeks to engage a part-time editorial support consultant(s) for an estimated level of effort of approximately 10 days per month. The anticipated period of performance for this consultancy runs through September 2022, with the possibility of extension. FEWS NET is an integrated set of activities funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is intended to provide timely, accurate, evidence-based, and transparent food security early warning information and analysis. The FEWS NET EWT maintains offices in a number of countries in Africa, Central America, Central Asia, and the Caribbean.

Position description

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the editorial support consultant include, but are not limited to:

  • Edit written content for grammar/spelling and clarity within EWT reports/products in English, French, and/or Spanish, as assigned, ensuring spelling and grammar are accurate and in accordance with the FEWS NET EWT Style Guide.
  • Ensure the formatting and layout of assigned reports/products are consistent and in conformance with the EWT’s formatting standards, using available reporting templates and other resources, as assigned.
  • Coordinate with relevant EWT colleagues on assignments to review drafts-in-progress, seek clarification where needed, and provide status updates on progress and estimated completion dates.

Qualifications 

  • Advanced professional proficiency in English is required; advanced professional proficiency in Spanish and/or French is also required for consultants providing editorial support in these languages.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills are required in English; English and Spanish; English and French; or English, Spanish, and French.
  • At least two years of relevant experience (with PhD), four years of relevant experience (with Master’s degree), or six years of relevant experience (with Bachelor’s degree) is required. Relevant experience includes working in a professional capacity to produce external and/or internal written communications, including writing and editing experience, or in other related fields; experience working with food security information systems, food security analysis, early warning, or other related fields is desirable
