Position description
The Department of Politics, International Relations and Philosophy at Royal Holloway seeks to appoint a Professor in Gender and Politics. The successful applicant would be expected to start in September 2022.
About the Department. The Department of Politics, International Relations and Philosophy is part of the School of Law and Social Sciences. It is a research-intensive unit ranked second in the country by the Times Higher Education following the publication of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 results. We provide a full range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. We carry out research across the different disciplines, but we place special emphasis on our research centres: the Royal Holloway International Security Centre (RHISC), the Centre for Islamic and West Asian Studies (CIWAS), the Global Political Development Centre (GLOPOLDEV), the Democracy and Elections Centre, and the New Political Communications Unit. The Department also plays a leading role in the College-wide Gender Institute.

About the role. We’re looking for someone who makes distinctive research contributions in the field of gender and politics. We are interested in hearing from applicants working in a range of different subfields, including but not limited to representation and political participation, international relations/global politics, post- or decolonial politics, political economy, public policy, and/or sexualities. Applicants should have a track record of publications and grant income that is commensurate with their contribution to the field.
We’re also looking for someone who can shape our undergraduate teaching in the second and third years. As a department that practices research-led teaching, we’ll expect you to offer a third-year module defined by your research interests – but we’ll also look for candidates who can offer a general introduction to the field of gender and politics in the second year, as well as someone who can contribute to the Gender Studies Masters Programme that we are building.

That experience may have been gained in administrative roles within universities, within professional associations, or through editing academic journals or other shared resources.
This is a full time and permanent post. This post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
